There are many opportunities for adults to be involved here at FBC. Sunday School - On Sunday mornings we have Bible study classes for all ages. We have classes for couples, as well as men's and women's classes to choose from. You are sure to find one to meet your needs and where you can contribute to the spiritual growth of others. Discipleship Groups - On Sunday evenings during the school year (September to May), we offer a number of topical Discipleship courses to help people grow in their relationship with Christ. Classes offered include doctrinal classes, Bible Book study classes, Spiritual gift discovery classes, personal stewardship/financial management classes, and many others. Wednesday Night - Our mid-week Prayer service consists of a prayer time for the people and families we know who are in special need of God's care, whether because of illness, bereavement, or any other issue. The service also includes a brief devotion from the pastor. This is a great time to be lifted out of that mid-week slump, and to specifically remember those who need our prayers and support. We hope you will find your place and be involved soon! _______________________________________________________ Gary McAbee, Pastor March 2010 Newsletter Article
“Whiter than Snow” Growing up in Alabama, I loved the snow - probably because we got so little of it. Any time it snowed (which was once a year if we were lucky) was a big deal. I would go out and play in it for hours and have a blast. Now, because I live in a climate where snow is a more frequent occurrence, I don’t get as excited about it. In fact, after the past few weeks I can honestly say that I’m sick of the snow. I’m
tired of the schedule disruptions, the salty road film on my vehicles,
the slipping and sliding, all of it - I just want summer to get here! Yet even though I wish the snow would go away, I still find myself in awe of it when it happens. I was standing outside one night last week when it was snowing, and it was awesome. It
was so quiet that it seemed you could hear the snowflakes hitting the
ground, and there was a stillness in the air that calmed my heart. As I watched the flakes slowly descending from the sky, I was touched by the peacefulness of the scene. The white of the snow was so bright that, even though it was after 10:00 p.m., it looked like it was the middle of the day.
As I looked across the brilliant, pure white landscape of that blanket
of snow, I was reminded of the words of the Lord to the prophet Isaiah
- “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18). As
we move through this season of Lent and prepare ourselves to celebrate
the resurrection of our Lord at Easter, that snow is a reminder to all
of us of the marvelous, wonderful grace of our God. It
reminds us that God loves us, that He has the power to forgive our sins
and He can make our lives different than they were before. I don’t know about you, but that’s something I hope never goes away.
