Membership Information

The membership of this church shall be comprised of persons who have confessed Jesus Christ to be their Savior and Lord, who have received scriptural baptism by immersion, and who will do their utmost to abide by the church covenant, and who have been received into membership by vote of the church.  Members will be received:
(a.)  By public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and having received believers baptism by immersion.
(b.)  By promise of letter from another Baptist church of like faith and order.
(c.)  By statement of prior conversion and baptism by immersion in another church.  The understanding of believer's baptism by immersion is that baptism follows one's acceptance of Christ as Savior and Lord.  Further, baptism is an act of obedience following Jesus' command to follow Him in baptism.  Baptism is a symbolic witness to the burial of the old life without Christ and resurrection by the power of God to the new life in Christ.  Baptism is symbolic in nature and the act itself has no salvation power.  One is baptized because he/she is a Christian, not in order to become a Christian.
(d.)  By acceptance from another denomination which does not practice baptism by immersion; the new member would be baptized as a restatement of faith symbolizing a desire to unite with this church and its heritage.
(e.)  By watchcare, leaving your membership in a "home" church by aligning with First Baptist as your church home away from home.  Watchcare members shall be eligible to participate in all areas of church life with the rights of full membership, with the exception that they will not be eligible to serve as church officers or eligible to be elected as deacons.
(f.)  By statement of Christian experience and baptism into another Baptist church provided that church no longer exists, or if for some other valid reason that person is unable to obtain a letter.
