Science
Fair

One of the primary
missions of the club is to generate interest in physics and astronomy, as well as,
the other sciences. The club feels like one of the best ways to achieve this goal
is to get younger students interested in the sciences and hopefully keep them interested
throughout their early years. With this in mind the club sponsors an annual county-wide
science fair. The fair was started in the spring of 1999, but was moved to the fall
semester in order to accommodate the wishes of the majority of the elementary schools.
The club has established the criteria in which the judges will use to judge
the event and all important information can be found using the links at the bottom
of this page. The judges will be looking for projects that are primary research
projects. This means that the student devises his/her own project about a phenomena
and devises an experiment to test a hypothesis. During the experiment the student
will collect data and analyze this data to form the simplest general rule that is
supported by the data. The student will then present this information to the judges
in the form outlined by the rules of the fair. In addition to the individual competition
the school which collects the most number of points will receive a travelling plaque
with their name and the year that they won the fair. The plaque will remain at the
winning school until the next fair.
